Blatter warns France, Sarkozy

Johannesburg - FIFA president Sepp Blatter has warned French leader Nicolas Sarkozy that the country's national team risks suspension from global competition if he meddles in the running of the side.

Blatter says the French football federation cannot rely on protection from politicians - "even if it is at the presidential level."

Blatter says he is sending a "clear and clean message" to the French government and President Sarkozy.

Sarkozy has promised to personally lead an investigation into France's poor showing at the Soccer World Cup.

France failed to win a game and players went on strike at training.

FIFA rules demand that federations manage their affairs independently or face suspension from international football matches and business.

Soccer defied the Government of the time and all the different bodies merged then. The make up of the team now is the natural evolution of 30 + yrs of intergrated soccer. Rugby and cricket were forced to change in 1992 and are still dragging there heels over the issue. PS. SA soccer was suspended by Fifa in the late 60's due to the then governments policies.

WTF...Blatter..you are a moron. Rather tell our ANC "know all" Idiots, here in SA..to keep their stinky, fat, useless, grubby fingers out of sport and let the players play..then you will be doing something worhwhile...you twat.
croix6/30/2010 11:51 AM
It may in the near future become necessary for all countries' football associations to meet and create a new umbrella body to replace Sepp-tic and Thiefa ? My opinion is it's out of the control, and time for change.
Dipsy6/29/2010 8:35 PM
WTF does Blatter think he is?? He needs to get FIFA\s house in order before he starts getting involved in domestic football issues. He is too frigging big headed and needs to be brought down a peg or two. Unfortunately he also lives in the dark ages and does not support technology to be used in the game!!
PJ6/29/2010 7:38 PM
Blatter is only interested in controlling his power. FIFA is only good for making this type of warnings. When it comes to seeing that justice is done in the World Cup tournaments it is lamentably insufficient. Let's just take 3 clear-cut examples (there are many more): 1. Thierry Henry's handball that allowed France to enter the final phase in South Africa at the expense of Ireland. Even Thierry himself admitted he touched the ball. 2. England's goal that was refused when Germany was leading 2-1 in the round of 16. Even a child can see from the video replay that the ball had already entered largely inside the net when the German goalkeeper caught it and threw it back. 3. Mexico who was victim of an illegitimate goal by an Argentinian player who was clearly offside. Referees, being human, do make mistakes but it is up to FIFA, the controlling body, to do something about this type of mistakes which are really not fair to those on the receiving end. If FIFA doesn't do that, who can do it?

Who does Mr Blatter think paid for our new stadiums - McDonalds, Hyundai, Budweiser and Coca Cola? No, it was the taxpayers of South Africa, ergo the SA Government. Of course the government would have a say in what goes on with their team - they paid for it! Just like the French team, or any other national team for that matter. There's to much national pride at stake for any country competing in the SWC for governments not to be involved. Surely Blatter knows this? Where else would the seeding BILLIONS come from? Governments - that's where! Where do all the profits go - FIFA. Who does the "after party debt hangover" belong to? The government! So unfortunately Mr Blatter, Now that you have all of the millions (sorry, BILLIONS) of South Africa's hard earned cash in your pocket, you will wave farewell and leave us to clean up the mess!. By the way, thanks for the R1,8 Million (that's MILLION) tip that you bequested to the SA goverment for running a great show - surely that should have been more like 18 Billion!
blah blah blatter6/29/2010 3:58 PM
Who is FIFA? I think it is about time something is done about them. The referreeing has been a disgrace; they will not allow technology; players are allowed to act like ballerina's and babies on the field! The game of soccer or football whatever you like to call it has become a total disgrace! I wonder how many reff's had money on the matches, dishing out yellow cards as though they were toffee's. Has to be the worst governed sport in the world!!
fO'ReAl!6/29/2010 3:53 PM
Well done Sepp! - The French football body should investigate and deal with it without any political pressure
what ever6/29/2010 3:47 PM
i truly thienk dat blatter is busy with da match fixing an dat he is so scared dat the french govermant will pick up on somthing.so he warns tham ,my friends from sout africa calls it da poep scared.match fixing is presant .mark my words
mxo6/29/2010 3:36 PM
Hey Sepp let Sarkozy investigate that crap team and then you can suspend them. They offer nothing to international football at the moment so if they are suspended they will not be missed.
Peter6/29/2010 3:21 PM
Shame. First Africa had Uncle BOB, now we have a bigger idiot in Uncle Sepp. Shut up, let us have TV Reviews to find the true winners and shame the divers, and let the true workers of this country make some money.
Suurpoep6/29/2010 2:58 PM
Correct Mr Blatter ...100% correct !!!!
annie6/29/2010 2:49 PM
Please, Mr Blatter can you tell that to the SA Government as well?
VAD6/29/2010 2:26 PM
Unfathomable - the audacity of the man (SB) dictating to the superpowers of the world. I fear Mr Blatter is displaying Magabe characteristics.
@ Brian6/29/2010 2:21 PM
Soccer continued in township streets even though there were separate federations & even when the White soccer federation crumbled. Since the end of Apartheid soccer was not embraced by the White minority (locally), who instead opted to focus on cricket & rugby. Booth is in the team because he is passionate, & demographically, the ratio is fair. There is more than enough space for any race or individual that embraces soccer & has the talent required. Your Apartheid mentality has no place here! Sepp & Sarkozy are equally big douches.
DoosFACE6/29/2010 2:03 PM
@BigGiantHead - Lovely . . . I'm still laughing!
Brendon6/29/2010 1:54 PM
"..what we gonna do today Brain..?" " ..same thing we do every day Pinky. Plan to take over the world!! Wahahahaha!!!"
Steph6/29/2010 1:53 PM
@ Mike Dude READ something other than Huisgenoot!. The guardian (UK) carried an article about Blatter! • 2007: Fifa's South Africa World Cup committee awards Swiss firm Match AG exclusive £342m hospitality rights.Match AG – co-owned by Sepp's nephew's firm. The heart of man is corrupt!!! Don't matter your colour creed or nationality! Just google scandal and see what you get, not just a show on eTV! Bottom Line... FIFA is robbing people and sucking the joy out of soccer!
Roy6/29/2010 1:51 PM
No politics in sport? How come North Korea, where they won't even allow Tv coverage, is participating?? Stranger & stranger
Anti Alan6/29/2010 1:48 PM
So, Mr Wiseguy Alan Ingram, why are other sports not such big loses if the ANC has interferred in them.LOL.
Oh!6/29/2010 1:46 PM
"FIFA rules demand that federations manage their affairs independently". I would not have guessed considering how our government ate, slept and dreamt FIFA and used our tax money to pay for 2010 SWC. Like to see FIFA/SAFA return the money after the profits roll in.
Ron6/29/2010 1:45 PM
Blatter is becoming a Robert Mgube. He is past is sell by date and needs to step down .By refusing to introduce technology to assist referees confirms that he is unable to progress ,and is resistant to change. It is high time this senile little man who is not even liked in his own country is voted out [if that is even possible]
eh6/29/2010 1:41 PM
I am no Sepp Blatter fan, but I agree that politicians should not stick their nose in places where they are not needed or wanted. Please speak to the SA Government too Sepp
Dylan6/29/2010 1:36 PM
I think ol' Sepp has grown a bit to big for his Louis Vitton socks and boots. Since when has a company been able to tell a government what do?
Hakuna Matata6/29/2010 1:36 PM
Nothing in the world, being it political or religious leaders can unify/mobilize people all around the world like soccer can. Doom-sayers look at politicians when they start talking about the so-called "New Order". I say: Look no further than FIFA!!
Alan Ingram SA6/29/2010 1:28 PM
The ANC Government has intervened with EVERY sport in South Africa including football and that is why Bafana is such a bunch of loses !!!
HENK6/29/2010 1:28 PM
blatter is an idiot running a mafia organisation. who the hell doe he think he is to demand the president of a country. look what mess he created for us in south africa and the financial crisis he left us with after this world cup, and that with a smile on his fat face because of the fact that his pockets are full and so the pockets of a non profit organisation. bloody clown can get himself a well deserved chair in the sa government!
Robert Kay6/29/2010 1:23 PM
That miserable little dictator Sick Bladder thinks he owns FIFA, and runs it like his own fiefdom (is that a pun?). He is archaic in his outlook, refuses to introduce modern technology, as a result of which his referees get away with murder to the detriment of the game. Piddle off, Bladder, and retire with your ill gotten millions!!
Robert6/29/2010 1:21 PM
Who do you think you are Sepp???? What a f'ing joke! South Africa is a perfect example of politicians meddling in the soccer team.... I don't see a warning going to them..... Time for you to leave FIFA, Blater, you don't own the organisiation.... You are an embarresment!!!
BC6/29/2010 1:14 PM
As has been seen in SA it seems Blatter and FIFA can tell governments what to do, but governments have no right to interfere with FIFA!! Time this organisation was cut down to size! As a competion the SWC is a farce.
The Big Giant Head6/29/2010 1:09 PM
I personally think with all the idiotic 1800's ideas of FIFA, that all the nations in the world should say stuff FIFA and create a new body which will allow technology to assist idiotic refs!!!
DN6/29/2010 1:09 PM
@ Mike Turner, What utter bs - "non-corrupt" west governements. Tell us Mike, what kind of brainwashing have you undergone. The sad truth is that All governments have corrupt elements to them and non more so that the West. Go flush yourself
gav6/29/2010 1:08 PM
Hahahahaha, hey Blatter what u going to do,send your panza troops and attack France? you think you to big and i think you should get out and let somebody else run the show
BC6/29/2010 1:08 PM
It's about time Blatter was put in his place, who does he think he is? President of the world!!
BC6/29/2010 1:07 PM
It's about time Blatter was put in his place, who does he think he is? President of the world!!
Concerned fan6/29/2010 1:05 PM
Independence is important in sport but when do you draw a line with regard to the fact that Governments fund their own associations with little fund from FIFA if there is any....When do they elect for a new FIFA pres (last time I checked you stay as long as you like) coz it's time for Sepp to leave now....
the little cherub6/29/2010 1:04 PM
Blatter's mealy-mouthed hypocrisy knows no boundaries...........why the hell is the World Cup being played in South Africa if non-Government intervention is one of the criteria - presumably that includes ALL sport!!!!!!!!!!!!
Barry M6/29/2010 1:02 PM
Bet Sarky Sarkozy is sh!tting himself. Sepp you useless f@rt, get a life and disappear to neverland you pathetic little man!
Zach6/29/2010 1:01 PM
@walt, we are taking about soccer here not some other sports, u moron!!
skyblue6/29/2010 1:01 PM
@ Walt, no need for him to do so, known fact this is why quota system cannot be applied to Bafana Bafana. The old NFL in 1978 was discontinued due to suspension by FIFA at the time, due to apartheid in soccer, this was lifted in 1992.....
Ballz6/29/2010 12:58 PM
Walt makes a very good point. One of the main reasons we got the World Cup was the governments backing. Politics was heavily employed in this world cup. Blatter as a huge god-complex.
deon6/29/2010 12:57 PM
mike, i would love to know which non-corrupt western governments you are referring to. perhaps france where it is legal to bribe a non-French company in order to get a contract?
paul6/29/2010 12:56 PM
Sepp blatter must f*ck off!
Andrew6/29/2010 12:51 PM
Blatter must do the right thing and step down, he is killing the game.
Brian6/29/2010 12:51 PM
I agree Walt. It's funny how in the old south africa we were excluded from international sports because of our 'whites only' teams. How is that different from our current soccer squad bafana-bafana that is an 'all black' team? And don't mention Booth who never got to play. How is that not political? Wtf?
Fred6/29/2010 12:50 PM
Someone please put Blatter out of his misery. Agreed that politics and sport should not mix, but there are limits. The French as a nation are being ridiculed - surely a matter of concern to the president, who is not about to take over the reigns of the FFA.
Realist6/29/2010 12:44 PM
Sepp Blatter wants to rule the world! He is already ruling here in South Africa with his draconic FIFA rules that cannot even allow the "man in the street" to earn his "small" place in the sun as they were promised before the 2010 SWC! The only institution benefiting from the 2010 SWC (and previous world cups) are Mr. Blatter himself and those who support him! The rest of the world can go to....!!! I think it's time that world political leaders take Sepp Blatter on and put him in his place!
Penalty Spot6/29/2010 12:44 PM
well said mike turner..
Shrek6/29/2010 12:43 PM
Ivan the Terrible, Stalin, Hitler, Mugabe, Blatter......... the list continues
o great 16/29/2010 12:41 PM
Go President Sarkozy go who the do Fifa think they are ? Lead an investigation into France's and Fifa
Scatman6/29/2010 12:38 PM
If FIFA rules prohibits government interference in Soccer, why do we not have a single white face in the Bafana team
Dave6/29/2010 12:36 PM
Blatter trying to act like God again..
Alan6/29/2010 12:32 PM
Wow...shouldn't Mr Blatter fork out the same warning to the ANC......they have a lot of influence on Bafana Bafana...believe it or not.
Nathi6/29/2010 12:32 PM
MaFi(f)a has spoken
Di6/29/2010 12:25 PM
just who does blatter thinks he is? methinks the power has gone straight to his head. he's a megalomaniac of note!! for crying out a loud - soccer's just a game! he's vying for "ruler-of-the-world"! pathetic little man with "hitler-complex"!
Steve6/29/2010 12:24 PM
Who the f@@k doers Blatter think he is? Just because he can dictate to Africans, does not mean others will bow down to him.
Walt6/29/2010 12:22 PM
Wonder whether Blatter has ever warned the SA Gvt not to interfere with sport in this country? Very much doubt it!
Big Cheese6/29/2010 12:21 PM
Can nobody suspend Septic Bladder for acting like a sepp blatter ?
Me6/29/2010 12:21 PM
Blatter seems to have more say and power than the Iluminati, wow!
Mike Turner6/29/2010 12:20 PM
For the very simple reason that FIFA is terrified that if non-corrupt western governments (as opposed to to the corrupt African kind) take an interest in its affairs it wouldn't last particularly long!
