Black Stars switch SWC base

Johannesburg - Africa Cup of Nations finalists Ghana have reportedly dumped Mpumalanga as their World Cup base in favour of Pretoria.

According to the Sowetan website, a source close to the Local Organising Committee said the Black Stars changed their minds after the final draw on 4 December.

"Their decision has absolutely nothing to do with the facilities in Mpumalanga. In fact, Ghana were impressed with the facilities there," the source is quoted as saying.

"I think it is more to do with the weather conditions, they needed an environment similar to where they will be playing their group stages matches."

The switch in venue makes logistical sense as Ghana - who are in Group D with Germany, Australia and Serbia - will play their games in Pretoria, Johannesburg and Rustenburg.
