'Bafana will come good'

Johannesburg - Danny Jordaan believes Bafana Bafana will answer all the questions being posed about the side's ability and fitness levels at the World Cup tournament.

The LOC chief executive is aware that there are many criticisms of the national team, but he feels it is normal for the host nation to need to up the ante ahead of the global showpiece.

Jordaan admitted that Bafana face a tough task in overcoming Group A opponents France, Uruguay and in particular Mexico, but he is hopeful that Carlos Alberto Parreira's men will reach the second round of the tournament.

"What Bafana Bafana now need to know is that they will be playing against the Mexicans who are playing a very attractive, positive brand of football. It is going to be a very good opening match. I watched Mexico when they played against the USA and they are a very talented, attacking team," he told Football365.co.za.

"Having said that, I do think we have a chance. The issues that we are talking about are the issues we should not be talking about and that is whether the players are fit enough. At the World Cup you can't be discussing the fitness levels of your team.

"So, I just hope that our technical team will address all those issues well in advance and hopefully, by the time of the World Cup the team will be fine, fit and focused."

When quizzed about Bafana's goalscoring woes, Jordaan added: "Yes, of course that's an important issue. We really do hope that the team will come right in time. We are up against two countries that have won the World Cup in the past in Uruguay and France and all those teams hosted the World Cup in the past. So, we are up against experienced campaigners there.

"It goes without saying that it is going to be tough, but it is important that we are ready for that opening match. We still have over five months to go and there's still plenty of time for our team to address their goal-scoring dilemma and other challenges they might have in the team and like I said, I am very hopeful," he concluded.
