Bafana to hold camp in Brazil

Johannesburg - World Cup hosts South Africa will hold training camps in Brazil and Germany to prepare for the 2010 tournament, the South African Football Association (SAFA) said on Thursday.

A total of four training camps have been planned for South Africa, with the side heading to Brazil in March and Germany in April.

The arrangements had been made before the appointment of Carlos Alberto Parreira as coach last Friday but he would be allowed to give some input, national team general manager Sipho Nkumane said.

South Africa's league will shut down in January for the first training camp, expected to be at altitude somewhere in the country. The season is also finishing early to allow Parreira time to work with the home-based players, who form about half of the expected squad for the 2010 finals.

South Africa will train in Brazil for four weeks from March 6 and then go to Germany for a camp from April 13-28. The team will be based in Herzogenaurach in Germany but the Brazilian venue has yet to be fixed.

A final training camp will start on May 6 before the World Cup kicks off on June 11, SAFA added.

The team have four international warm-up games fixed over the next six months with matches against Japan (November 14), Jamaica (November 17) and away games in Chile (March 3) and Jamaica (April 10).

Nkumane said negotiations were ongoing with North and South Korea for possible friendly internationals in January and with Argentina, Costa Rica and Paraguay for games in March.

Can someone please tell me why they have to train/hold camp in Brazil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And then they train in Germany this is ludicrous and who is footing the hotel bills etc........was this Parreira's idea to be close to home
akhona mbenyana10/30/2009 11:12 AM
great idea, expose our boy to international levels. gud thng for them because we do not want any embrassment in the world cup next year, and some excuses that bafana bafana were not that fit or exposed to international football. GUDLUCK TO SOUTH AFRICA. PLAY WITH PRIIDE BOYS PLZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SAFA has ran out of ideas. It is indeed a pity that all this bis costing the nation billions of rands. I wonder if these SAFA people were coughing all these billions out of their pockets, they were still going to be this extravagant. I happen to believe that I am not a violent person but right now I stronglly support the calling that SAFA needs to be shown how public feels about their stupid decision. I think we should boycott all Banana Banana matches. SAFA you make me sick.

What the fack has Apartheid to do with our present soccer scene. You must not be older than 14years and spend the last five years in Grade B. Go back to your room and pray for your banana's......

Whats with the hype with training in Brazil when the world cup is been held in SA. Are they trying to justify this over payed coach who was only fired recently from a Brazil club for not producing results what use will training there do. Still want SAFA to state how many millions they are going to squander on this Peter Sellers look alike.
darren @ jones10/29/2009 6:30 PM
so what if brazil play sa in the wc, he is a professional and will make sure he does the best he can like santana did when we where unlucky against brazil in the confederation cup. your trying to say that he will throw the match for brazil to win. stupid thing to say you obv dont know anything about sport. do you think if italy and england play in the wc that capello will weaken england so that his home nation will win. no of course not.
Jones10/29/2009 4:52 PM
It is so unfair for our local coaches after working so hard for years and years by making sure that they train/groom players, but at the end of the day they are sidelined. What would happen if Brazil play South Africa in the final?
Arly-G10/29/2009 4:16 PM
Oh God please help this clueless SAFA management because they are completely running out of ideas, they can't think Lord please help. they are misusing the poor man's tax. they think Brazil is where you created soccer. when the new SAFA president was announce i thought our football will change but it's going down the drain. Lord i know the bible says we must forgive and forget but i can't forgive the person who brought Perreira back but i praise the person who fired Santana. Now my Lord they want our Bafana to go Camp next to Santana's mantion which he built this year with our poor man's tax. God i call you to lighten this SAFA before things turn out off hand, before we start violence protest. Please Lord do something quick, i will appreciate if you think of infecting Parreira's wife with some virus then you will hill her after 2010 WC. i think that's the only way Parreira will leave our country in peace. God i'm saying this because they ( SAFA) ingored our local talent, they are undermining us. it's not good to be undermined by one of your own. i hope you will see this as a sin to undermine one of your own. please help our Football. AMEN

Its so painfull to learn that apartheid has made us so negative and we cant even apriciate ourselves. This negative vibe about the national team is not what we want, we are hosting the world cup and it wont change anything . What must happen is that we must start believing in ourselves and stop being so negative. fellow south africans its time to reaise that we achieved very early after readmission to international arena , forgetting that we have been playing alone in our country without being exposed to international stages. Look at our players abroad , they are playing in minor league and you expect that our national will perform miracles. Please fellows let us stop being so childish and behave ourself.

I heard the greatest of news - Benson Mhlongo is injured. Things are penning out well for Bafana. I guess next will be Pareirras stroke and Gaving hunt will take the honours...
PAUL10/29/2009 3:15 PM
They can go to Brazil or where ever but no one will go to the Stadium when they are playing localy until the local coach is appointed

Funny stuff man10/29/2009 2:34 PM
How hilarious... ha ha ha... the entire football world will be trying to simulate the conditions where the WC is hosted to gain an advantage. We, the proud home nation, will be boarding a plane and travelling to the other side of the planet to train in Europe and S America. Where is the logic in this decision in spending millions, considering the amount of suffering people in SA.
Arly-G10/29/2009 2:29 PM
SAFA makes me sick like the so called Brazilians Santana and Perreira and Jairo Leal. go hang guys.
Twins10/29/2009 2:21 PM
Untill SAFA realise that Bafana Bafana is not Brazil, the better. What gonna be next, Spain ???...... Who is this Raymond Hack ??? Did he ever play football ??
kokkewiet10/29/2009 2:08 PM
wow. dumbstruck. isn't the world cup in south africa? isn't it the ultimate preparation to prepare in the host nation? all the other countries so badly just want a friendly here for preparation. so now we train overseas, in differant conditions, in differant environment. i've got nothing.
jakes10/29/2009 2:06 PM
why the f##k are they going to brazil and germany?the world cup is in SA! not like they need to get used to the conditions in brazil or germany. poesreira again wants a holiday...
Mr T10/29/2009 2:03 PM
I wonder why this people are so Obsessed about Brazil, they think we'll play the same with them answer is Never.
Silly10/29/2009 1:54 PM
This article is a waste of my reads ..why write such a stupid story ,surely there are more important n interesting news other than this BAFANA BAFANA SAFA fiasco...Springboks won the world cup here at home train in on home soil breathin Home fresh oxygen..The world is comin to us but still we want to go to them,Even if they go to Brazil and Germany , a team training in harsh condition of africa like Burundi will trash them ..Useless SAFA is a load of cow sh...t.... Of soek julle 'n ander tipe bos.......... Mors lekker geld. Hier is mense in ons land wat dood gaan van nie kos het nie maar julle wil in ander lande gaan oefen. As julle hier bly kan julle dalk die semi haal volgende jaar.
Stephen10/29/2009 1:40 PM
It doesn't matter where Bafana train. They are rubbish. Do they think that by training in Brazil, or Germany or anywhere else, they will get the ability to score goals by osmosis? It doesn't matter where or how or when they train, they will not get past the group stages- even if the group included India, Mongolia and Andorra. The object of football is to score goals, and Benni apart, they cannot score goals.
Thabo Seleke10/29/2009 1:40 PM
In all honesty, Brazil has benefited from our WC, now they will be benefiting from tourism/hospitality from our national team! All the WC teams are holding their training camps in our shores, while ours are going away to Brazil! i wonder If SAFA will be able to explain all once the curtain closes on the WC.
khotsi a muofhe10/29/2009 1:33 PM
why in brazil.....JUST DO WHATEVER YOU WANT...pls SAFA are you now considering banana to brazil cause perreira want to be with his old magogo wife there..........SAFA you are the joke of the year in the whole world......just spend our(taxpayer) money while our brother is suffering out there.........WC must just come and quickly go and i know sa wont qualify for any event.......I HATE SAFA WITH ALL MY HEART.....they are full of shit....
and Juluis 10/29/2009 1:32 PM
Now I believe the colonials come in handy dont they? Actually who cares and mostly how is Juluis going to deal with the squad being trained by a former colonialist?
Zach10/29/2009 1:26 PM
Can the newspaper reporters please ask SAFA officials what is the rationale for training in these countries, which have different climates from us and which are so far from us? I say again, SAFA officials will have to face the firing squad after the world cup.
laser beam10/29/2009 1:22 PM
That's a great idea. After all RSA has got plenty of money to splash around. Everybody has got a good job with a decent income. Our health care, education system are among the best in the world. Our police got alles under control plenty of funds to fight crime. So Bafana Bafana go out and enjoy your training camps while millions of your brothers stay behind and got f%#kol.
shakes10/29/2009 1:21 PM
ok you have already made plans for camp, right here is what perreira need to take with: gps: itumeleng, m josephs, baron. defenders: nasif, morgan, bongani, tshepo, bevan, anele, bryce. midfielders: pienaar, dikgacoi, van heerden, cale, lance, moriri, klate. forward: katlego, parker, richard, benny, serero
Sox10/29/2009 1:18 PM
We dont care they can go and camp on the moon they are useless like SAFA and Parreira, mark my words they wont even score one goal at the WC unless is own goal, shame SAFA you all bunch of idiots! i see lot's of resignation after 2010 including Parreira after he collected his millis again!!! SAFA you such a disappointment, what a joke!
h10/29/2009 1:13 PM
Who cares!!! What is our soccer team's and supporters' facsination with Brazil. Come on! Our rugby is our rugby, not australian. Our cricket is our cricket and not India's. As soon as these soccer idiodts stop trying to copy brazil, they'll actually play better. What a bunch of losers!!!!
GeePMB10/29/2009 1:09 PM
Um.. Pardon me but are we not playing the tournament in South Africa next year? Surely it is cheaper to bring one coach to SA than take a squad (and it's entourage) to Brazil and Germany? We should be training in local conditions. But alas, SAFA are a law unto themselves and will have some spin on why these camps are necessary on foreign soil. Just like they spun us the yarn that we needed a coach with international experience to guide us in the next 280 days. Newsflash, the previous international coaches have done diddly squat for Bafana other than help them slide from a lofty 16th down to 85th in the rankings! And people wonder why supporters are getting pissed off!! Makes you think!!
$Sign10/29/2009 12:58 PM
What a waste of time and money! If they can't handle the media attention, they shouldn't be professionals.
johan scholtz10/29/2009 12:52 PM
What a waste of time and money. So training in South Africa isn't good enough. What on earth will they gain by training in Brasil? Come on guys !
Arly-G10/29/2009 12:49 PM
who cares?????????????????????????. they can go wherever they want to go but still they won't achieve under their stupid coach. likely Mhlongo is injured and is a blessing in disguise. i so wish he can recover after 2010 because Perreira won't be able to play three defensive midfilders. go hang Perreira and your so called father SAFA.
