Bela Horizonte – Bafana Bafana have suffered a setback with the news that goalkeeper Emile Baron has had to leave their training camp in Brazil with an injured shoulder.

The SuperSport United goalkeeper returned to South Africa on Wednesday night.

Baron will therefore miss the match against Cruzeiro and Saturday’s long-awaited showdown with former Bafana coach Joel Santana’s Botafago in Rio de Janeiro.

It’s not known how serious Baron’s injury is and there will be more clarity later.

The injury is probably similar to the one that he sustained while still playing for Lillestrom in Norway.

It may also keep him out of next month’s training camp in Germany.

Baron recently helped United win their third consecutive Premier League title.

He was in good form and is blowing down the neck of regular Bafana goalkeeper Itumeleng Kuhne.

Bafana assistant coach Pitso Mosimane expressed the hope that Baron would return swiftly.

“Let’s wait and see what the doctors say once they have examined him properly,” said Mosimane.

“It’s sad because he has only recently returned to the national team.”

Another of the country’s top goalkeepers, Rowen Fernandez, is struggling with a knee injury.

On a more positive note, Mosimane said that he expected Bafana to reap the benefits of their month-long camp in Brazil.
