Bafana looking for inspiration

Brazil - South Africa coach Carlos Alberto Parreira is hoping his team will learn to play the "Brazilian way" at the Soccer World Cup finals after a month-long training camp in his homeland.

Parreira, who brought a squad of 29 to the Brazil team's Teresopolis training centre, said South Africa would play a series of friendlies against club sides to warm up for the World Cup and become imbued with the Brazilian game.

"The idea of bringing them here is because this is the cradle of world football," former Brazil coach Parreira, who steered his country to the fourth of their five world crowns in 1994, said.

"Great world champion players with the Brazilian national team have trained here. I want that to act as an inspiration for our players," he told a news conference.

Parreira said South African soccer suffers from the many different styles of their club sides, a reflection of the coaches of a variety of nationalities who work there.

"South African football doesn't have an image, it has several identities, there are trainers from various parts of the world," he said.

"Our (Brazilian) great quality is to put the ball on the ground, so there is nothing better than to play in Brazil, against Brazilian teams, so (South African players) get that feeling of the ball on the ground.

"That is the style that adapts best to their game."

Parreira added 15 of his 29 players in Brazil, where they play friendlies against Cruzeiro, Fluminense, Botafogo, Santos and Palmeiras and some smaller club sides, are sure to be in his World Cup squad.

Top forwards Benni McCarthy and Steven Pienaar were not released by their English clubs for the camp that also includes a match against World Cup-bound Paraguay in Asuncion on March 31.

The camp will be followed by a three-week spell in Germany that Parreira said would help reduce the pressure from South African fans, who are demanding much more from the team than a place in the second round that is his target.

"There's a huge pressure, the fans think with their hearts. They want their team to reach the semi-finals, the final, they don't want to know if the team is okay in the FIFA rankings, what they want are results," Parreira said.

South Africa have been drawn in Group A at the June 11-July 11 finals they will host with Mexico, Uruguay and France.

With the South African's governments youth wing calling for the death of whites, it maybe wise that European supporters stay away during the world cup. Bafana do not need inspiration, they need skill

WHAT !!! Learn to play the Brazilian way in a month..JOKE OF THE DECADE... They have not learned to play football in twenty years and our over paid coach thginks he can get them to do something in a month... He should change his name to TICKEY the clown, but them maybe that would be an insult to the REAL "Tickey the clown" of long ago...Double figures in the opening game giving SA the first four in a world cup... First in Africa, Highest ever rating in a world cup... first host to go out after round one and now first team to concede double figure goals...Bring back JOMO.... HA HA HA...

Can all the non-soccer fans please refrain from commenting. Rugby is a game played by half-wits, it takes absolutely no skill to play. Get the ball and run for the line, if you can't make it, pass it. NOT VERY SKILLFUL, not to mention how poor some of our teams are. I've played both games at provisional level and rugby is a game for people with no talent. Where in the world can a flat, slow ass man with a IQ of 20 make a career as a athlete? SA sugby!!!!!
nhlanhla3/11/2010 12:09 PM
the type of players selected for this samba safari are too old to break from what they have been doing over the years (cannot teach an old dog new tricks), anyways it is late to try anything new. i for one am only happy that we will be hosting the event am not keeping my fingers crossed for a bafana miracle
@George3/11/2010 11:50 AM
Please refrain from commenting on Bafana articles. We get your point. You donot like Bafana. The why even waste your time posting spam on this forum. You and your extremist type can stick to fishing. But please p**** off from this forum.

George3/11/2010 10:54 AM
I cannot believe that there are still so many fools in SA that back a useless team like Bafana. Wake up and smell the roses you fools

luzuko3/11/2010 10:29 AM
If you say you South African but you don't what is SA soccer stop commenting because you South African always critise you don't come up with solution you suppose to support the but the only thing you do is to critise the the team just shoot up and stop being negative the coach has done a good job to South African like who know soccer.bcoz we don't watch you watch and analyse unluck critics you just watch you nothing about analysing the game.
lolo3/11/2010 10:20 AM
Taking the team to brazil is fantastic idea. That will make sure our players are more focused than they would have been if they were here. They will eat, drink and sleep soccer. We also have our media who seem to be scratching for news when there are none, and therefore tell dishonest stories about our players. Lets also not forget the pull them down syndrome that we south africans suffer from.
Tebogo Mnguni3/11/2010 10:16 AM
Bafana Bafana we are behind you no matter what you belong to SA therefore you guys have to just have to show your talent. you are unique individuals players just try to stay away from bad thingz. GOOD LUCK KE NAKO......
Bullit3/11/2010 10:12 AM
I support everything South African (Excluding Julius he from Lala Land). South Africans are good at their own style not someone else's style. Europe play their style, South America theirs and Africa. But South Africa has always been unique and that makes us world beaters. Come June we won't win the World Cup but we will make the rest of the soccer world take note. Even if Bafana is in the crap now come June the nation will rise again like we always do.
Magast3/11/2010 10:09 AM
Parreira is hopeless really. He came all the way from Brazil to critisize us about not having a style in football. I'm loosing hope in him and put my hopes in players. We all know how good was BB in the confederations cup, they played exceptionally well. Our problem is upfront, we only lack in the scoring department. We really should consider a local coach after 2010, this foreign coaches have no trust in us but only our money.
Mbuyiselwa Maphalala3/11/2010 10:07 AM
First & farmost I am South African and proudly Azanian, we are a nation of winners through unity and diversity. Against all odds we made through the hardships of our past and we are one the greatest nations ever. I am sure that the boys will do us proud even though our fellow SA sceptics are not giving us a chance.
Lamps_83/11/2010 9:43 AM
I just hope Bafana are focusing on the football & not the holiday in Brazil. There's many different ways to play football but any South African will tell you the same thing about our National side. They need to concentrate on retaining good posession & need to make sure of their finishing in front of Goal, they also need to be solid in defence.Booth is probably the only real hard-worker in the back four,Gaxa is not bad either.European experience shows when they play.@Steve & other naysayers-Please f*k off,SWC is obviously more important than the Super 14 this year so take a seat and Enjoy it!
Glory, glory3/11/2010 9:31 AM
rather the ManUtd way...much better
T3/11/2010 9:24 AM
Well said Lolo, well said. Not much that one can add on to that...
SA way3/11/2010 9:23 AM
Everyone keeps saying that we must play south african soccer our way...What is the South African way of playing soccer??? The coach says Brazil's game is to keep the ball on the ground, The English play a very fast paced game, Italians are great in defence... what's the South African way???
the little cherub3/11/2010 9:22 AM
Sounds more like a SAFA-sponsored holiday 'back home' to me. HTF does he expect to turn us into a mirror-image of Brazil in one month, with the world cup just around the corner.........he couldn't even do it in 10 years. This guy is full of bullshit and is playing SAFA like a violin!
Michael3/11/2010 9:18 AM
You can take Banana, Banana anywhere. It will not make a difference. They simply got no chance and am I sure even Parreira knows that. He makes his millions and will go back to Brazil once SA has lost the last group game against France.
jackey3/11/2010 9:17 AM
@Steve...Please refrain from this forum if you have nothing to say and stick to watching Rugga Live or what ever the F@#$ that is....
lolo3/11/2010 8:57 AM
Parreira needs to realise that we are a nation filled with hope. Following the huge strides we have made in the sporting world at such a short space of time, we've come to realise that there is nothing impossible in this world.Hence we tend to push our sports men and women regardless of what the statistics show. So Mr. Parreira welcome to South Africa, the land of miracles. Our Natalie Du toit, Springboks, Oscar Pistorious, Josias Thungwane, Pirates ( I am a buccaneer after all) are testimony to that.
Mxolisi Selby Shabangu3/11/2010 8:46 AM

Mark3/11/2010 8:43 AM
What a lot of horse dung. I suppose if we had an English coach we would have to play the English way, with our upper lips halfway up our backsides. Let's play football our way, with a SA coach in charge.
Blanka3/11/2010 8:41 AM
Was this meant to be the joke of the day?
Amos Lence3/11/2010 8:35 AM
For once I agree with you coach. The dutch coaches and all different coaches that grazed our shores have reduced our standard of football to nothing. The club bosses are to blame for that. I would understand if international coaches grazing our shores were top quality, but they aren't. They are rejects from Germany, Netherlands, Serbia e.t.c. None of them had anything to add to our local football. I agree with you coach.
SIpho3/11/2010 8:33 AM
Let me see if i get this one straight...... he wanna teach us brazilian style, 3 months before the world cup so we can beat brazil in their own style they have been playing for over 50yrs .....nice one Pereira, what happened to the SA style that locked Brazil for 87minutes in our last match, cause clearly we cannt beat brazil in their own style
Steve3/11/2010 8:32 AM
Is this coach stupid or what? Bafana play the Brazilian way? The only way they can play, is the local way, which is cr@p. Bring on rugby instead, not this game played by buffoons
good luck3/11/2010 8:31 AM
You've got more chance of a one legged pooch playing the Brazilian way...Don't be an idiot!!!
