Asuncion – Bafana Bafana will return to South Africa next week from their training camp in Brazil a “fitter” and “more complete” side.
That was the view of coach Carlos Alberto Parreira before South Africa were set to play their only friendly international on tour against Paraguay on Thursday morning.
Bafana have impressed with six wins in eight games against local club teams. They conceded only one goal in more than 12 hours on the field.
Parreira said that his team would continue its preparations for the World Cup against Santos on Saturday. They return home next Wednesday.
“Our confidence is improving with every game and that is exactly what I wanted,” said Parreira.
“The players’ fitness and finishing skills have improved drastically. It was a very successful camp.”
The South Africans will have a short break before heading out to Germany for another training camp of three weeks.
Parreira has indicated that his current squad of 29 will be trimmed down considerably.
Meanwhile, Santos are expected to field a weakened side against Bafana, with dangermen Robinho and Giovanni not down to play.
Bafana can still expect a tough match against the club where the iconic Pelé honed his footballing skills.
