Britain's BBC has conducted an extensive poll in which a series of football experts (ex-professionals, managers, writers and media pundits) were asked to predict their top four in order of finishing.
A selection of the results yielded some interesting predictions, with their survey showing Brazil in second, Argentina third with England fourth.
Some of the more interesting predictions came from Chris Waddle, former England winger who produced the following: 1. Spain 2. Brazil 3. Serbia 4. Holland, and George Weah, former Liberia striker, who showed immense faith and optimism in Africa’s chances by predicting 1. Brazil 2. Ivory Coast 3. Ghana 4. USA
Spain were the overwhelming favourites to win, and, after they polled over 50 experts from more than 20 nations, no-one included previous winners Germany, Italy and France to repeat the trick in South Africa.
Here’s a snapshot of what sets aside the Spanish from the competition:
Ronald de Boer Ex-Netherlands midfielder, 67 caps
Spain have the same group of players as they did in winning Euro 2008, only more experienced. They have played together for a long time so the players know each other's qualities inside out. Also, they have a great bench and in many games it's the substitutes who make the difference.
Papa Bouba Diop Senegal and Portsmouth midfielder, 58 caps
"They are the best team, Spain, and they have the best players. They proved it at Euro 2008 and it's hard to say they won't win this time. An African team, maybe Ivory Coast or Ghana, can do well."

"Spain is the best team for the quantity and the quality of exceptional players. No other team in the world has played like them. Good keeper, good defenders, exceptional midfielders and some exceptional forwards."
