Onazi recovering well

Cape Town - Injured Nigeria international Ogenyi Onazi says he expects to be fully recovered from injury and back on the pitch in two weeks.

The Lazio midfielder suffered a ligament tear in his ankle, following a rough tackle by France's Blaise Matuidi during the two sides' last-16 encounter at the World Cup.

Onazi has, however, calmed fears of a lengthy spell on the sidelines after fans watched him being carried off the pitch in Brazil.

"I am feeling better now. I didn't fracture any bone as reported," the 21-year-old told African Football. "I am in Abuja taking more treatment. I thank Nigerians for their support."

The Super Eagles, along with Algeria, were the only two African teams to progress past the group stages, but their journey ended with a 2-0 defeat against Les Bleus.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
