Johannesburg - A new bus service will ferry fans to games across the country throughout the Soccer World Cup, the transport department said on Thursday.
"The SA national department of transport is proud to announce that it has fulfilled its transport commitment to FIFA in readiness for the World Cup, by introducing an inter-provincial and regional transport system which will facilitate the efficient and safe transport of general spectators to and from matches."
A fleet of 110 new 79-seater buses was acquired for the new service which would transport World Cup spectators to various parts of the country, particularly tourist spots and host cities.
"The introduction of the 2010 Soccer World Cup Passenger Transport Schedule will provide public transportation of a high calibre that is reliable, easily accessible, safe and secure, convenient and affordable to all spectators attending any of the scheduled matches."
An inland service would carry passengers in Pretoria and Johannesburg hubs to and from stadiums in Rustenburg, Polokwane, Nelspruit, and Bloemfontein, the department said.
Western and Eastern Cape coastal services included a trip from Knysna to Cape Town, via Wilderness, George and Mossel Bay and from Mossel Bay to Port Elizabeth, via George and Wilderness and vice versa.
There will also be a service running from East London to Port Elizabeth, via King Williams Town and Grahamstown and vice versa.
In Durban buses would transport passengers in Richards Bay, Pietermaritzburg and the Wild Coast to and from Durban.
Tickets for the new bus service range from R140 to R300 for a one way trip.
Passengers were urged to book online.
