Johannesburg – There were no further tickets left for the World Cup final, FIFA said on Thursday.

Spokesperson Nicolas Maingot said tickets for the final taking place at Soccer City on Sunday were completely sold out.

There were, however, 2 700 category one to four tickets left for the third place playoff taking place between Germany and Uruguay in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.

Attendance at FIFA fan festivals surpassed the five million mark on Wednesday night.

It now stood at 5 358 267 people watching at fan fests in South Africa and across the globe.

In Berlin, Germany about 350 000 watched their national team at the FIFA fan fest on Wednesday night and in Durban 56 836 people attended the fan fest there.

Good attendance

Maingot said the number of people at the stadiums in South Africa would not surpass the number who attended in Germany in the last World Cup in 2006.

The attendance at the first World Cup on the African continent, however, was only the third to have crossed the three million mark.

Local Organising Committee spokesperson Jermaine Craig referred all queries on the flight delays at the Durban airport on Wednesday night to the Airports Company of SA, saying the body was due to release a statement later on Thursday.

On the matter of a fan who managed to get onto the pitch during the semi finals in Durban on Wednesday, Maingot said it was "not acceptable" that a fan could find their way onto the pitch.

"It should not happen, we will tighten the controls for the next two games," he said.

He referred all further queries about that specific incident to the police who were now dealing with the matter.
