Waka Waka most played song

Johannesburg – The World Cup song Waka Waka by Shakira and local band Freshlyground was the song played most often on radio and television in May, an airplay tracking organisation said on Tuesday.

AFStereo's Aircheck said the song was played 518 times on 30 of the radio stations it monitored and six television channels in May.

It was followed by Rise up Mzansi, by the SABC 1 All Stars, which was played 303 times.

Kick it up, by Don Clarke, took third place with 209 plays followed by Wavin'Flag by K'naan, played 142 times.

Other songs that featured on the playlist were Robert Kelly's Sign Of Victory, played 43 times, Oh Africa by Akon and Keri Hilson, 36 times and Jabulani 2010, played 15 times.

"It must be noted that Rise Up Mzansi recorded a higher than usual rotation due to the song being extensively used as a background... on Thobela FM," said the tracking organisation.
