Pretoria - Food vendors stood empty on the Coke fan mile leading up to Loftus Versfeld stadium in Pretoria on Wednesday.Sweetness Mokwena said business had been closed since the start of the World Cup."The problem is, we are sitting in the wrong place, we are the poorest and we can't compete (with) the serious dealers," she said pointing to a KFC and Nando's, which were both spilling over with business."We thought we would have just been competing with each other."Mokwena was one of ten food vendors lined along the main street in Hatfield.Sarah Appolis said her business selling vleis and pap was also suffering."A lot of people come here, and they have already eaten.""The metro (Tshwane municipality) said to us that we were going to make some money...maybe tonight is the night."Appolis said that she lost a lot of money by buying food that was left unsold.Parking around the stadium was filled to the brim with pubs in the vicinity offering shelter to most people who chose not to go the distance to Loftus Versfeld, where Bafana Bafana was to take on Uruguay at 20:30.It was a windless night as the sound of vuvuzela's filled the air.Two Muslim Bafana supporters were seen kneeling in front of a pub praying for their team's victory. Some entrepreneurs sold earplugs.Jeremy Reeks, said he thought earplugs were necessary in order to "save peoples ears from the vuvuzelas"."There's a lot of people who can't handle the noise, the vuvuzela is considered even louder than the chainsaw."As a working sales representative during the day, Reeks said he was hoping to visit most of the stadiums where games were played at night, in order to make some extra money.
