Cape Town - Local and international journalists packed into the Cape Town special World Cup court on Saturday for the trial of British journalist Simon Wright only to be kept waiting.

This is after Wright's attorney, William Booth, needed some time to consult with his client before his trial following compilation of a new charge sheet only handed to him on Saturday morning.

Wright faces charges of attempting to defeat the ends of justice and with fraud and contravention of the Immigration Act as the two alternative charges.

This is after he allegedly facilitated for football fan, Pavlos Joseph, to enter the England team dressing room during a World Cup game against Algeria in Cape Town.

Joseph admitted guilt and he was fined R750 for trespassing.

The state is represented by senior counsel Billy Downer, the deputy director of the Western Cape Director for Public Prosecutions - the same man who successfully prosecuted Schabir Shaik on corruption charges in Durban.
