Traffic to Soweto backed up

Johannesburg – The N1 south to Soccer City stadium was backed up to the Nasrec off-ramp on Monday ahead of the match between Denmark and the Netherlands.

Many soccer fans seemed to be sleeping inside the flag-festooned cars and minibuses as these crawled along the highway.

The road was clear after the Nasrec off-ramp.

Johannesburg metro police were keeping a close watch on motorists.

In Soweto the mood was more laid back than on Friday, when Bafana Bafana played in the World Cup opener against Mexico, and there were far fewer patrons at the Thokoza fan park.
