Durban - World Cup celebrations at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi, outside Durban, were off to a slow start ahead of the kick-off between Bafana Bafana and Mexico on Friday.

Just after noon, there were fewer than 100 people at the stadium, but the number was expected to increase as the day progressed because people were still at work.

Almost all the people at the stadium wore the colours of the national team, carried the South African flag and blew Vuvuzelas.

The stadium is named after Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini.

The stadium was recently renovated because it was earmarked as one of the training venues for teams taking place in the World Cup, but it was later decided that it would not be used.

People were expected to be entertained by a number of local artists.
