Pretoria - The image that South Africa had portrayed since the start of the World Cup as hospitable and warm should not cease when the World Cup is over, Department of International Relations and Co-operation director general Ayanda Ntsaluba said on Thursday.

"The people have created a positive picture of our country that in future they have to build on," Ntsaluba told a media briefing in Pretoria.

He said the World Cup had, so far, proved that the country was ready to host an event of such a magnitude.

Ntsaluba said the government had already started preparations for the closing of the tournament.

He would not confirm which heads of state would attend, saying only that confirmations were coming in.

While not commenting on Bafana Bafana's exit he said: "We cannot but celebrate the passing of Ghana to the second stage... to fly the flag for Africa."
