Johannesburg - Residents of rural villages near KwaMhlanga in Mpumalanga were out in full force at a fan park in Moloto to show their support for Bafana Bafana on Friday.

A big fan park had been set up at the Big Tree shopping mall in Moloto, near KwaMhlanga. The park had seating for 400 people and by 14:00 most of the seats had been filled by vuvuzela-blowing fans.

People were dancing to music, all of them sporting Bafana colours.

Aubrey Sebothoma, aged 35, from Moloto said he hoped Bafana would win. He said the team had won all 12 friendly games they had played recently. He added that the team had a very good coach.

Rina Mokoena, aged 27, also hoped Bafana would win. She said the team had good players and her hopes were pinned especially on the defenders and strikers.

Most of the people gathered at the fan park viewed the soccer tournament in a very serious light because it was the first time it was being held in Africa.

They said that even if Bafana did not do well, they would still be happy because history was being made.

Buses and taxis were ready to take people home after the match.
