Cape Town - Two members of the Uruguay soccer team who were robbed while playing a World Cup match against France in Cape Town will not press charges, police said on Saturday.

Thieves stole cash from the hotel rooms of the soccer team while they were playing the Group A match.

The players however declined to open a case, police spokesperson Colonel Andre Traut said.

"We are aware of the incident. We went there but no case was opened. The players declined to press charges."

Uruguay media reported that thieves broke into the rooms of Ernesto Rodriguez and Daniel Marotta during Friday night's match at the Cape Town Stadium.

According to the reports, Rodriguez was missing $4 000 and Marotta $8 000.

Earlier this week, a large amount of foreign currency was stolen from the Greece soccer team at a luxury Durban hotel, and they also declined to lay a charge.
