Cape Town - A paraglider arrested for landing in a "designated" area at Cape Town Stadium, after being swept off-course, made his third appearance in the city's World Cup District Court on Monday.
Christian Jacques Schlechter, 34, of Hinda Close, Hout Bay, allegedly touched down in the wrong place on June 23. He was arrested and released on R500 bail the same day. There was no World Cup soccer match in the city on that day.
According to the charge sheet he faced two charges of trespassing. The first charge is framed under legislation enacted in 1959, the second in terms of special FIFA legislation.
The case was on the roll for documentation, including the charge sheet, to be handed to defence lawyer David Mvazwana. Cape Town's senior prosecutor David Jacobs asked for a postponement to July 13 for this purpose.
Mvazwana said each postponement was inconvenient for Schlechter, as each time he had to take a day's leave, which did not please his employer.
Schlechter appeared before Magistrate Joe Magele, who granted the postponement and extended Schlechter's bail.
