Cape Town - German Chancellor Angela Merkel will have dinner with Western Cape Premier and DA leader Helen Zille at Leeuwenhof on Saturday night after watching Germany play Argentina in the World Cup quarter-finals.

"The chancellor has accepted an invitation for dinner from the Prime Minister of the Western Cape Province, Helen Zille, at her official residence," the German Embassy said on Friday.

Merkel's whistle-stop visit to South Africa will also see her hold talks with President Jacob Zuma on Saturday morning and visit German-backed soccer and urban development programmes in Khayelitsha.

The chancellor showed herself to be a keen soccer fan during the 2006 World Cup, which Germany hosted, and will meet with the national side after their match, the embassy said.

Zille is of German origin and related to illustrator Heinrich Zille, who achieved acclaim in Berlin in the early 20th century.
