Pretoria - Lesotho nationals top the list of foreign visitors entering South Africa during the World Cup so far, Home Affairs Deputy Minister Malusi Gigaba said on Thursday.

Briefing the media in Pretoria, Gigaba said 188 702 Lesotho nationals had entered the country, while 173 043 had departed SA.

He attributed this to Lesotho's close proximity to South Africa.

Other top arrivals and departures included Zimbabweans, Mozambicans, Swazis and Batswana.

Arrivals from the United States totalled 44 512.

Gigaba said African unity had been high and there had been no incidents of xenophobia.

"At the moment we are really happy about the trends we are seeing," he said.

Referring to the English journalist arrested in connection with the so-called "changing room" incident at Cape Town Stadium, Gigaba said he was not aware of any home affairs involvement.

"But off course if he [Simon Wright] has breached the immigration laws we will take action over and above the action police will take."

Wright has been implicated in a trespassing incident at the stadium where Londoner Pavlos Joseph managed to enter the English team's changing room.

Joseph was also arrested but subsequently released after paying an admission of guilt fine.

Wright stands accused of harbouring Joseph while police were searching for him.

He also allegedly used false documents to book Joseph into an upmarket hotel under an assumed name.
