Johannesburg - Two media centres for journalists covering the World Cup opened in Johannesburg on Thursday, organisers said.

One was at the Craft and Design centre in Sandton Square, next to FIFA's headquarters, and the second at the South Point building, 1 Biccard Street, Braamfontein, said Gauteng Gateway 2010 project head Barba Gaoganediwe.

Braamfontein was selected because of its close proximity to Newtown, the site of one of FIFA's fan parks.

There would be a media concierge desk, a media hot desk and a lounge/bar area as well as a shuttle service to and from "key locations".

"We want to ensure all media have a home, nerve centre and a space that has a finger on the pulse 24/7 to allow a free flow of information during the World Cup."
