Jhb fans arriving late

Johannesburg - Shortly before the curtain raises for the start of the closing ceremony at Soccer City Stadium, only about 25 000 fans had taken their seats.

All 85 000 thousands were sold out long before the first match on June 11.

Six years of hard work will come to an end as the 2010 Local Organising Committee, headed by chairperson Irvin Khoza and his CEO Danny Jordaan, host the closing ceremony.
Spain and the Netherlands will meet in the biggest soccer match on the planet – the World Cup final.

Neither side have won the trophy before.

Colombian super star Shakira will sing the number one hit Waka Waka during a 27 minute closing ceremony.

The final will bring the curtain down on one of the most successful World Cup finals in history.

Over one million tourists visited the country during the four weeks of the final.

More than three million fans attended the 64 matches during the event.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter is set to give the South African event a big thumbs-up when he addresses an international media conference on Monday to wrap up the 2010 tournament.
