Gloom follows Germany's loss

Port Elizabeth – A cloud of sorts circled over many German supporters at the German Club in Port Elizabeth on Friday as their side went down one-nil to un-fancied Serbia.

Screams of disappointment followed the final whistle at Nelson Mandela Bay stadium.

But all was not all doom and gloom.

"This was a wake up call for Germany. It was their first game lost in their group since 1986," said Frans Botha of Port Elizabeth.

Class will come through

"But Germany will definitely go through. Their class will come through and they will beat Ghana in the next game," he said.

Another fan, pointed out however that Germany will now have to win with two goals.

A crowd of several hundred supporters were at the club to watch the match.

Following Serbia's goal, the comments flowed freely.

Missed opportunities

"Germany's got to win. It's so close every time, that's the problem," said one fan, commenting on the many missed opportunities the Germans suffered.

"Do you think the game's rigged?" asked one.

"No never!" said her companion.

"C'mon Germany, please I beg you," said a distraught woman.

Festivities

The German television station ZDS is scheduled to do a live broadcast from the club on Friday evening, ostensibly to show the festivities.

The German club has laid on a special World Cup menu for fans, which is open to the public for all World Cup games.

There are also three big screens at the venue.

The special menu includes traditional German dishes such as home made brawn, schnitzel burgers, bratwurst, eisbein, and sauerkraut.

The club even boasts two automatic skittle allies.
