Pretoria – A man convicted of defrauding an American citizen of more than R2 000 over the World Cup period will be sentenced in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court on Tuesday night, the National Prosecuting Authority said.

The conviction of Johan Nel is the fifth case that has appeared in the dedicated World Cup courts.

Nel was found guilty of pretending to own a car rental service and "hiring" a car to Joseph McMaham.

"The complainant deposited an amount of R2 271 into the accused's wife's account to hire a car to travel with to Mpumalanga province.

"The accused failed to deliver such vehicle as promised and it was discovered through investigation that the accused did not own a car or a car rental service," the NPA said.
