FIFA happy… so far

Johannesburg - Soccer's governing body FIFA is pleased with the progress of the World Cup thus far, but says it's too early to give it an all round thumbs up.

"So far we are quite happy... but it's a bit early to draw conclusions. There have only been eight out 64 games," FIFA spokesperson Nicolas Maingot told a press conference at Soccer City stadium in Soweto on Monday.

He said the kick-off concert was a first for FIFA, but was a resounding success and a very good start to the event.

"Generally speaking we are happy."

He said there was a fantastic atmosphere at all the games and fans were generally well-behaved.

On Monday afternoon a sea of orange was descending on the stadium, as Dutch fans arrived for the country's match against Denmark at 13:30.

Military helicopters hovered overhead while metro police attempted to control the heavy traffic approaching the stadium from Nasrec Road.

The stadium was packed just before the start of the match between.
