Johannesburg - Two Dutch women were arrested in Roodepoort, west of Johannesburg on Wednesday for ambush marketing at the World Cup match between the Netherlands and Denmark, police said.
"These women, who have been part of a larger group, are suspected to be involved in organised acts to conduct unlawful commercial activities," Colonel Vishnu Naidoo said in a statement.
They were allegedly part of group of 36 women clad in orange mini skirts at Monday's game and were detained for allegedly punting Dutch beer Bavaria.
Dutch newspaper die Telegraaf, in its online edition, named them as Barbara Castelein and Mirthe Nieuwpoort. The 36 were initially interviewed by police and released without being charged.
Naidoo said the two would face three charges related to contraventions of the Merchandise Marks Act and two sections of the Special Measures Regulations. They were expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Wednesday afternoon.
The Telegraaf said the Netherlands ministry of foreign affairs would contact South African police to get clarity about the arrest of its citizens.
