Cape Town – Thousands of Cape Town soccer fans poured into Long Street in the city centre after the FIFA Fan Fest on the Grand Parade was declared filled to capacity by the city.

City spokesperson Kylie Hatton said there was a festive mood on Long Street and that they had had no reports of serious incidents.

"There are obviously lots of people in Long Street, but there are also a lot of police in the CBD," said Hatton.

She said although there were no big viewing screens on the streets, fans would watch the opening match between Bafana Bafana and Mexico in the many pubs lining the famous street.

Alternatively residents who want to enjoy the match with other fans can go to "fan jols" which are open from 11:00 – 23:00 on all Cape Town match days, Bafana Bafana game days, quarter finals, semi-finals and the final at the following venues:

-    The Bellville Velodrome in Carl Cronje Drive, Bellville

-    The Swartklip Sports Complex on the corner of Tafelberg and Spine Roads in Mitchells Plain.

-    The OR Tambo at the OR Tambo Sports Centre, corner of Mew Way and Lansdowne Road,
Khayelitsha

-    The Vygieskraal in Johnston Road, Athlone
