Johannesburg - The two women accused of stealing money from the Colombian soccer team's hotel rooms applied for bail in the Johannesburg Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
The State opposed their bid, saying the two were second-time offenders and didn't have credible identity documents.
"Accused number one, Jeneath Mashimbyi was previously arrested for theft at the Westcliff Hotel in Parkview, and her true identity has not yet been established because she gave the investigating officer a different identity number than the one she gave to the investigating officer on this case," prosecutor Minka Erasmus said, reading from an affidavit written by the investigating officer.
There was confusion over the name of the second accused. She was previously named as Ayanda Maseko, while in court documents she is known as Lucky Mahlatse. Erasmus said she was arrested for theft in Edenvale in 2008. Her citizenship was also not known. She had apparently been born in Zimbabwe.
The case was postponed to June 9 to find a Shangaan interpreter.
