Johannesburg – South African police say an 11th Argentine football hooligan is being held at Johannesburg's OR Tambo airport after being prevented from entering the country for the World Cup.

Police said on Wednesday the man was an "identified" troublemaker and had arrived on a flight from Brazil on Tuesday.

The hooligan, who was not named, was in airport holding facilities and was set to be deported later on Wednesday.

Ten known hooligans from Argentina have already been deported from South Africa after travelling for the tournament.

The Argentine embassy also said two other men, Armando Travacio and Daniel Aguilera, were stopped after flying in from Angola.

Spokesperson Sally de Beer said: "Ongoing co-operation between international law enforcement agencies... and the South African Police Force, as well as co-operation between the SAPF and the department of home affairs, has to date resulted in 11 'barras bravas' being prohibited from entering this country."

De Beer said intelligence information indicated that "these people would commit acts of public disorder, engage in acts of violence and provoke conflict with certain fans of opponent teams and other groups from Argentina during the 2010 Fifa World Cup".

"They are known to have a history of being involved in crime and antagonising local law enforcement agencies," said De Beer.

According to the "La Barra Brava" Facebook page, the term loosely means "brave fans" but is generally also used to refer to so-called soccer hooligans.
