Mourinho's challenge to Muller

Cape Town - Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho would like to see how Bayern Munich striker Thomas Muller shapes up against a more organised defence at the World Cup.

The German forward netted a hat-trick as Die Mannschaft hammered Portugal 4-0 in their opening Group G encounter on Monday.

He is poised to retain the Golden Boot crown he won at the 2010 tournament in South Africa, as his three goals are currently enough to see him lead the race for the award.

Mourinho has admitted his admiration for the Bayern attacker but is not convinced his homeland offered enough resistance in the match.

"I would like to see Muller up against a compact defence," the Portuguese mentor told Yahoo Eurosport.

"That would test him. Portugal were far too weak. There are plenty of teams at this World Cup who defend far better, are much tighter and better organised."

He added: "He's incredibly dynamic and has a unique goalscoring instinct. He finds room on the field that nobody else knows about.

"But I still think that, even with Muller, Germany don't have a real forward in their team."

Muller scored 13 times in the Bundesliga last season, and has now scored eight goals in seven World Cup appearances.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
