Cape Town - South Africa is ready, but is Danny Jordaan?

Was his slip a Freudian revelation that he wishes the start of the Soccer World Cup could be delayed by two weeks?

The slip came on Thursday during a media conference following his early-morning meeting in Cape Town with the SA Clothing and Textile Workers' Union (SACTWU).

Replying to a question about the sale of counterfeit memorabilia such as shirts, Jordaan said there was still time to act against illegal products.

"The fact is that the World Cup has not started," he said. "It's starting on the first of July. The fact is that..."

"Eleventh of June," interrupted SACTWU general secretary Andre Kriel, adding sympathetically: "It's been a rough 15 years."

"Starts eleventh of June," Jordaan corrected himself with a wry smile.

He has been at the forefront of South Africa's efforts to secure the tournament for more than a decade.

The first foreign team - Australia - arrives in the country on May 26, and the first match is on June 11.

The final will be played on July 11.

Leave the Danny alone , we all make a few slip ups now and the , Danny is no diffrent . To all the haters , u dont understand the magnitude of the SWC 2010 , only when all the fanfare is gone will you realise what missed .This is the biggest single sporting event ,we not talking eight rugbly and cricket nations , we talking 150 countries that played qualifiers for the right to play in the SWC. We are already reaping the benefits of the SWC , better roads , visible policing etc .No country is perfect but we sure as hell are better of than most in the world.

Michael5/14/2010 1:18 PM
Don't laugh; You can do it somewhere else in Brazil, not here.
Tebhane5/14/2010 1:00 PM
You can critisise the way you want to, but all is he has done is a great job, and you will find that all those who are critical are just stupid people who cant even organise their own houses but need other people to do it for them, but can open their big mouths about such a huge organisation, get a life, you have lost, you want it or not the world cup is here, so just get a life, if you cant beat them join them and stop complaining.
Thandi5/14/2010 12:30 PM
I won't be suprised if we fail the group stages, its a Brazil World Cup anyway. no wonder why Jerome Vark, eish! Valke wanted to take away 2014 from them. Fu#k LOC.
Netanando5/14/2010 12:07 PM

tommy5/14/2010 12:04 PM
@Deonic What k** are you trying to get across???
Batman5/14/2010 11:17 AM
Danny is a disgrace. I would certainly NOT appear in front of my audience looking like that. unshaved, crooked tie etc and in urgent need of seeing a dentist..but I suppose he can seeing as he's part of the R500 million scam with his buddy Irvin and the other ministers. Am surprised that Jake-the-trouser-snake is not involved...yet!!!
Mfananufikile5/14/2010 11:11 AM
You guys are talking alot of nonsense.Danny has done a good job over the past years. leave the man alone. well done Mr Jordan
mxo5/14/2010 10:50 AM
@Deonic Your comments are longer than the story itself but is just all drivel. Do you feel better now
It's all mine5/14/2010 10:25 AM
Well well well I can see the wool has truly been pulled over everyone's eyes. Not one cent of my hard earned cash will go to any of those thieving fanatical Albanian dwarfs. They are a bunch of lying, self-serving, fat-assed, chain-smoking, drunken, opportunistic, cynical contrarian's and deserve the mess they will leave this country in.

@deonic,,,,,well said dude,

@Frans5/14/2010 8:17 AM
Speak for yourself sunshine....How's that for Communication?Dentist,I couldn't Agree more with you.He looks like a total effin numbskull but I Love that numbskull for bringing the World Cup to our Country! Please don't screw up.Please!!!!
Dentist5/14/2010 7:23 AM
Surely Danny could have a shave, straighten his tie and have his tooth fixed before appearing in front of the media. After all he is representing the host country for the SWC!!
Kingsley Africa5/14/2010 7:02 AM
The cause for the slip of Mr Jordaan is as a result of loss of memory becasue he drinks too much. Too much whisky can make one forget things easily.
Dries5/13/2010 11:39 PM
Worldcup 2010ish...
Danny: Take the Cup to Australia5/13/2010 10:59 PM
Poor Danny, he doesn't want the Cup in his own country. He took the money, now must get rid of the the World Cup.
Deonic5/13/2010 9:20 PM
I'm not really worried about Danny's slip, but have to agree with uhduh's sentiment. I won't even buy a supporters' shirt of my beloved WP. Why would I even bother with a low quality material Bafana shirt at a FIFA price? During the pool stages of the SWC in France in 1998 I bought a "Afrique du Sud - Coupe Du Monde '98" snazzy printed t-shirt with the SA fag colours for 80 Francs (Then about R100) in the Champs Elysee. (Note that a pizza was then about 75-90 Francs in an average restaurant in the Paris suburbs) Why don't we see similar products on our streets? I suspect that Edgars and all these places will be running sales from 1 July to try and get rid of the stockpile of unwanted products. Maybe that is why Danny got confused with the dates - From 1 July, you will be able to pick up branded products for f-all. These FIFA jokers can go and play with themselves and use their thousands of branded products to clean up after them. At the moment I get the distinct feeling that we, the residents of this country, are being screwed left, right, centre, middle, up, down, sideways and through the ears. Memorabilia has been printed in China so that Fifa can add their rebate. I have to agree that the average citizen is not benefitting, and will not be benefitting for a long time. By the time that we are supposed to benefit from increased tourism etc, Motormouth Malema and these ministers with their ridiculous land theft plans and several other things, like support for Mugabe, would have cancelled out the positives with their negative actions and ideas.
clint5/13/2010 9:03 PM
I think they have a cheek to complain about the counterfeit goods seeing as they made so many deals with the Chinese instead of keeping their "promise" of letting the world cup benefit our local trade and industry. Yes so we make it at a higher cost but lets face it, we need employment and we could do with the money generated. I personally would buy counterfeit just to lessen their profits.
Michael Bowery5/13/2010 8:02 PM
He's made so much money out of this world cup it really doesn't matter. He joins alL the other fat cats in this politically motivated society where they can watch the rest of the world go by for the rest of their lives. Hopefully it will be sufficient to get them out of our system. However, there'll be another one to take their place.
anon5/13/2010 7:37 PM
A wry smile when interrupted is better than the "Bloody agent, go out!" that media has experienced in the past. Danny has done such a great job, South Africa is proud of him!
uhduh5/13/2010 6:36 PM
Slip or no slip make the legal products cheaper and there wont be a market for illegal cheaper products!!!!!!!
Frans Mosia5/13/2010 6:31 PM
No one is perfect in communication Danny.
