Cape Town - South Africa is ready, but is Danny Jordaan?

Was his slip a Freudian revelation that he wishes the start of the Soccer World Cup could be delayed by two weeks?

The slip came on Thursday during a media conference following his early-morning meeting in Cape Town with the SA Clothing and Textile Workers' Union (SACTWU).

Replying to a question about the sale of counterfeit memorabilia such as shirts, Jordaan said there was still time to act against illegal products.

"The fact is that the World Cup has not started," he said. "It's starting on the first of July. The fact is that..."

"Eleventh of June," interrupted SACTWU general secretary Andre Kriel, adding sympathetically: "It's been a rough 15 years."

"Starts eleventh of June," Jordaan corrected himself with a wry smile.

He has been at the forefront of South Africa's efforts to secure the tournament for more than a decade.

The first foreign team - Australia - arrives in the country on May 26, and the first match is on June 11.

The final will be played on July 11.
