Cape Town - Cameroon head coach Volker Finke admits he struggles to comprehend that Benoit Assou-Ekotto head-butted team-mate Benjamin Moukandjo during their clash with Croatia on Wednesday.
The African nation saw their World Cup campaign come grinding to a halt as they went down 4-0 to Croatia, a result which coupled with their opening defeat to Mexico saw them eliminated from the tournament.
The Indomitable Lions had to make do without Alex Song for more than half the encounter after he was sent off for a swinging arm aimed at Mario Mandzukic. However, that was perhaps not the worst case of ill-discipline, as Assou-Ekotto lashed out at his own team-mate after the two started to argue in the dying stages of the match.
"It's unimaginable. I saw this happen and I need to find out exactly what happened, why exactly these two players exploded," Folke said after the match.
"I hate to see that. It's not the image of Cameroon I want to project.
"I apologise for the result, it really hurts," added Finke.
"We had no control on the game and I didn't like the behaviour of my team. We have to look forward - this team has players for the future."
