Di Maria to miss semi-finals

Cape Town - Argentina have confirmed Angel Di Maria will miss the World Cup semi-final against the Netherlands after scans revealed a Grade One thigh strain.

The Real Madrid winger needed to be stretchered off just 33 minutes into La Albiceleste's quarter-final victory over Belgium on Saturday, and tests have since revealed the extent of the injury.

The development comes as a big blow to the Argentines' Brazil campaign, although some good news for the side has seen Sergio Aguero regain his fitness in time for Wednesday's encounter against the Dutch.

Team doctor Daniel Martinez said: "Angel (Di Maria) has a Grade One strain. Of course he won't play in Argentina's next game.

"After that, we'll evaluate the situation day-by-day but Sergio (Aguero) has practiced three times. He's ready to play."

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
