Conte set for Azzurri

Cape Town - Antonio Conte is reportedly set to be named the new Italy boss, with Cesare Prandelli having quit the role following their failed 2014 Soccer World Cup campaign.

The Azzurri saw their Brazil adventure come to an end at the first hurdle, with defeat to Uruguay in their final Group D match sending them back home with their tails between their legs.

Prandelli had announced his decision to step down almost immediately after their exit, and Juventus manager Conte has since been tipped as a likely replacement in the Italy hot seat.

Speaking of the rumours, Sunderland's Emanuele Giaccherini, who previously worked with Conte at Juve, believes the coach would be the ideal candidate to take over the national reins.

"Prandelli’s resignation? I don't want to get into his decisions," Giaccherini told Sky Sports. "I think that his decision was made out of disappointment with results.

"The new CT? Conte wouldn't be bad. I continued to hear from the boss even after my move to Sunderland because we had not just a professional relationship."
