'We will beat Man City'

Cape Town - They say "one man doesn’t make a team", but in Orlando Pirates’ case, they will be missing four key players when they face Manchester City on Saturday afternoon, yet goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs says there is no reason why the Buccaneers can’t walk away with a win.

Bucs face the English Premiership side at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane without Teko Modise, Katlego Mashego, Innocent Mdledle and Benson Mhlongo, after head coach Ruud Krol decided to rest them after their participation in the Confederations Cup.

When you consider that Man City have brought a strong squad, including new signing Carlos Tevez, with the exception of Brazil duo, Robinho and Elano, who will both only arrive for the Final, then perhaps ‘Slim Kat’ is biting off more than he can chew.

“I don’t think so,” replies the confident Bucs keeper. “Of course we will be facing some top players, but we also have some top players in the team. Those guys we will be missing are very important to us, but we can hold our own even when they are not around.

“I don’t take their absence as a negative, because new signings like Gert Schalkwyk and Andile Jali can use this opportunity to prove that they are very good signings for us. With what we have, I’m confident we will beat Man City,” he says.

It appears the Bucs camp is not short of confidence. “We can give them a run for their money,” adds Bucs’ new signing, Gert Schalkwyk.

Tickets are already sold out for Saturday’s encounter.
