Pereira - Officials in a city hosting the Under-20 World Cup in Colombia have banned fans from taking vuvuzelas to matches.
Pereira city officials made the announcement before Ecuador was to play Costa Rica and Nigeria was to face Saudi Arabia in a double-header on Saturday at the Hernan Ramirez Villegas stadium.
Police officer Gustavo Londono said the instruments were a nuisance during matches. Some players had complained the vuvuzelas made communication between players difficult.
The noisy vuvuzelas, made infamous at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, have made a comeback at the tournament in Colombia, especially in matches played by the host nation.
There are no bans yet at other stadiums.
