Rome - Italian striker Luca Toni says he wants to make his six-month loan move to AS Roma permanent.

Toni has joined Roma from German club Bayern Munich until the end of the season.

"For the moment I am loan, but I will do all I can to stay at Roma," he said in Saturday's edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The World Cup winner fell out with Bayern coach Louis Van Gaal earlier in the season and was relegated to the bench. He hopes increased playing time with Roma will help him win back a place in the Italy squad.

The 32-year-old Toni scored twice for Italy at the 2006 World Cup, but has not played for Marcello Lippi's side since at last year's Confederations Cup.

"If I return to my best, there's a good chance I could (be back in the Italy squad)," Toni said. "Winning the cup again will be hard, but we are good enough to reach the last four. Of course there are other teams that are stronger than us on paper, but that was the case in 2006."
