Terry in England Euro squad

2012-05-16 14:32

Wembley - Former captain John Terry has been included in England's European Championship squad despite facing trial immediately after the tournament for racially abusing an opponent.

The Football Association's decision to strip Terry of the England captaincy in February over the alleged racial abuse of Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand led to coach Fabio Capello quitting.

But Capello's replacement, Roy Hodgson, has included the Chelsea defender in the 23-man Euro 2012 squad.

Manchester United's Rio Ferdinand, the brother of Terry's alleged victim, remains out of the England squad having not playing for the national team since June 2011.

England's Euro 2012 opener is against France on June 11 followed by matches against Sweden and Ukraine.

Squad:

Goalkeepers: Robert Green (West Ham), Joe Hart (Manchester City), John Ruddy (Norwich).

Defenders: Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Leighton Baines (Everton), Phil Jones (Manchester United), John Terry (Chelsea), Joleon Lescott (Manchester City), Glen Johnson (Liverpool).

Midfielders: Gareth Barry (Manchester City), Stewart Downing (Liverpool), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), James Milner (Manchester City), Scott Parker (Tottenham), Ashley Young (Manchester United), Theo Walcott (Arsenal).

Forwards: Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Danny Welbeck (Manchester United), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham), Andy Carroll (Liverpool).

I think the furtherest England will go is the Quater finals if they are lucky. Judging from this past season, most of these players selected will have little or no impact at all. I'd like to single out the ff players: Gerrard, Carol, Young(diving all the way). Those that I didn't mention doesn't mean are good but they are worth a compromise.

Is it safe to say that Roy Hodgson condones racism? John Terry is a thug with a racism cloud over his head, yet he's in the squad and the victim's brother is out? I don't think this is due to footballing reasons. But it doesn't matter anyway. England don't stand a chance. Spain, Netherlands and Germany should be favourites.

Looks like Rio's international career is all but over now. As long as Terry is in the squad, he wont be able to play. So i guess its game over for him
