SuperSport KO'ed by ENPPI

Cape Town - SuperSport United were knocked out of the CAF Confederation Cup after a 3-1 loss to ENPPI of Egypt at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

SuperSport came into the game on a high after the goalless draw in the first leg in Egypt, but the visitors were a different proposition this time around coming all out for a win.

Having spoken about the importance of getting an own goal, Gavin Hunt’s charges opened the flood gates in the 10th minute though a George Maluleka pile driver that gave the visitors keeper no chance.

After the goal United looked to have taken their foot off the gas and looked happy to stay and allow the visitors to attack them. The Ivorian talisman Vincent de Fonye cracked the Matsatsantsa in the 37th minute, taking full advantage of a miscue from Edwin Gyimah to fire the ball past Ronwen Williams.

The Ivorian doubled his tally on the day in the 40th minute, after the hosts’ defence allowed him space for curling finish into the corner.

After the break SuperSport came back a much more rejuvenated side but the visitors put matters beyond reach through Omraw Ahmed fired home a cut-back just before the hour mark.

Coach Hunt threw Kermit Erasmus and Thabiso Nkoana into the fray for Sameegh Doutie and George Maluleka, but it was already too late as the visitors defended well and put their bodies in the firing line to secure a win.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
