Wits, SuperSport learn CAF Confed Cup fate

Johannesburg - SuperSport United's quest to reach a second successive CAF Confederation Cup final continues with a play-off tie against Kenyan champions Gor Mahia.

Matsatsantsa, who lost to TP Mazembe in the 2017 final, moved a step closer to qualifying for the group stages when they beat Petro Atletico 2-1 over two legs in the first round.

Their league form has suffered as a result of an impressive run in the competition last year, with Eric Tinkler having since stepped down as coach and Kaitano Tembo taking over on an interim basis earlier this month.

The Tshwane outfit have only lost once in their last five Premiership outings, but too many draws leaves them just three points clear of the relegation zone in 14th place.

Tembo will take his squad to Nairobi, Kenya for the first leg on the weekend of April 6-8, before hosting K'Ogalo in the second leg a fortnight later.

Meanwhile, Bidvest Wits were paired with Nigerian giants Enyimba in Wednesday's draw held in Cairo, Egypt.

Gavin Hunt's side fell just short of reaching the CAF Champions League group stages after being beaten on penalties by Primeiro de Agosto in the first round, having got past Pamplemousses in the qualifying round.

The Students have turned around their league fortunes after a dismal start to their title defence, with only one defeat in 2018 and going unbeaten in their last eight matches to move within three points of the top-eight in 10th spot.

Wits will entertain the Peoples' Elephant in the first leg and a daunting trip to Nigeria awaits them in the second leg.
