SuperSport through to CAF playoff round

Cape Town - SuperSport United secured their place in the playoff round of the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup with a 2-1 first round aggregate win over Petro de Luanda.

Matsatsantsa followed up their first-leg 0-0 draw with the Angolan side at the Estadio 11 de Novembro in Luanda with a come-from-behind win at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on Friday.

Elio fired Os Tricolores in front in the second half before Thabo Mnyamane bagged a brace to turn this tie on its head and secure SuperSport a place in the next round of the competition.

SuperSport started brightly with a number of early corner as they put Petro on the backfoot.

Mnyamane had a good shot blocked by Gerson before the away side came close to taking the lead through a Tiago effort.

Mnyamane again tested Gerson and while both sides continued to look intent to get forward, play was bogged down in midfield for much of the opening period.

Ronwen Williams made a super one-handed save from a corner at the start of the second period, before Elio fired the away side into the lead from the rebound.

Aubrey Modiba was guilty of missing a couple of good chances to get SuperSport back into the game, before Mnyamane hit the Petro crossbar on 66 minutes.

Mnyamane then did well to latch onto a free-kick from Dean Furman to level the score before heading home another Furman delivery for the win.
