Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs Football Manager Bobby Motaung says the club are looking forward to facing Mamelodi Sundowns in the new Shell Helix Ultra Cup at FNB Stadium on Saturday, 21 July.
The competition was recently introduced as a pre-season event and will now rival the Carling Black Label Cup in terms of being a big draw for local fans.
The inaugural match is set to take place towards the end of July in Johannesburg, with Chiefs handed the opportunity to gain some confidence against the reigning Premiership champions.
As such, Motaung feels the once-off clash should be an exciting one for everyone involved.
He told reporters: "It's historical. It's historical for Shell to be, (for) the first time, involved in football, and for us (Chiefs), to be playing a tournament with Sundowns, our own tournament with Sundowns, it's historical.
"And I want to thank both the president of Sundowns (Patrice Motsepe) and the chairman of Kaizer Chiefs (Kaizer Motaung) for allowing this to prevail.
"I think it's good for both clubs as we all know that this time around we also need to come back with a bang, come back with a strong character in the league, so this type of a game will help us boost our confidence coming into the league and show what we are made of for the next season."
