Ajax lightning won't strike twice, says Memela

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates attacker Luvuyo Memela is confident that his side can overcome an Ajax Cape Town team that recently inflicted a 3-0 win over Buccaneers.

Pirates dominated their Absa Premiership match against the Urban Warriors at the Cape Town Stadium on January 31, but suffered a sucker-punch on three occasions as the Urban Warriors scored on the counter-attack with what were virtually their only chances of the game.

The two sides now square up to each other once more, this time in a Nedbank Cup Round of 32 encounter at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday night.

Memela, who has been in scintillating form of late, is confident that there won't be any kind of repeat, especially on home turf.

"We've put that match behind us. What's done is done and we can't go back and reverse that situation," he told Soccer Laduma website.

"The fact remains that we are still title contenders but most importantly this will be a cup tie so history won't matter.

"Cup games require a different mentality. We will go into the match to win the game at all costs.

"This time they are coming to us and we will make them feel they are playing on our home turf.

"Pirates have a long history in cup competitions and we know the mentality of recovering from a defeat and getting back to winning ways," added Memela, who was previously on the books of Ajax but never played an official game for them.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
