Johannesburg - The late Kaizer Chiefs legend Isaac 'Shakes' Kungwane was remembered in an emotional ceremony held at the Square stadium in Alexandra on Wednesday.
The former Manning Rangers left winger passed away at the age of 43 last week after a short illness.
Among the dignitaries at the service were the minister of sports and recreation Fikile Mbalula, SAFA President Danny Jordaan, national under-20 coach Shakes Mashaba, Hareipha 'Simba' Marumo and all the deceased former team-mates including various footballing icons.
The Amaglug-glug mentor extended his deepest condolences to the Kungwane family for their loss.
"It happens to everyone," said Mashaba.
"It was even stated in the Bible that we are not the citizens of this earth.
"Our citizenship is up there in the sky where the old man will call us one by one.
"I want to pass my condolences to the Kungwane family in this time of mourning.
"What happened is not anyone’s wish or will, it was the will of the Almighty.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Platinum Stars striker, Marumo, also paid his tribute to 'Kasi flavour'.
"We are all going to miss Shakes," Marumo said.
"His jokes were funny.
"He used to make everyone around him laugh including the SuperSport viewers.
"He was a unique player with a unique character.
"We will never find another Shakes Kungwane.
"May his soul rest in peace," Marumo concluded.
Kungwane will be laid to rest on Saturday in Fafung near Brits, North West province.
The funeral service is scheduled to begin at 09:00.
