Pirates beat SuperSport United on penalties in their first round clash. They then accounted for Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 on aggregate.
Platinum Stars were too good for Free State Stars in the opening round, winning 3-0. They then thrashed Bidvest Wits 6-3 on aggregate to reach the final.
