Johannesburg - A football team made up of African footballers will take on current Soccer World Cup champions Spain in a match in SA later this year, reports the Sowetan.

Though no specific date and venue was confirmed, Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula, who made the announcement on Monday, said the intention was to thank people who were responsible for the successful World Cup hosted by South Africa in June.

Speaking at the strategic planning workshop, Mbalula said the World Cup was reflective of Africa and that the match will be South Africa's way of thanking everyone who was involved in the successful global showpiece.

This would be a great match. An Africa XI vs Spain at Soccer City, the only venue which should even be considered. I wonder how the African team would be chosen though? Will CAF choose directly, or will it be some form of public vote? At least the match will be in the off season, so player availibilty should not be an issue.
