Johannesburg - Newly elected president of the SA Football Association (SAFA) Kirsten Nematandani said on Monday he was not concerned over speculation that his position could be challenged in court.

Nematandani was the surprise winner of the SAFA elections at the annual general meeting held in Kempton Park on Saturday.

The new president was elected unopposed after the two main candidates, Danny Jordaan, who heads the Football Transformation Forum of which Nematandani is a member, and Irvin Khoza withdrew from the leadership battle.

Jordaan withdrew in favour of Limpopo based Nematandani. This was after the Premier Soccer League of which Khoza is the chairperson claimed that as a paid official of SAFA, Jordaan was not eligible to stand as a candidate for the SAFA presidency.

Speaking on SABC radio on Monday morning, Nematandani said he was not aware of any legal action from Khoza or his supporters after their defeat.

Said Nematandani: "All I know is what I have read in the newspaper headlines this morning. Safa have a legal department that would handle this sort of matter if it goes to court. "

Nematandani said that should his position be challenged in court he was not concerned. He said; "I feel comfortable with our court system."
Nematandani stressed that his priority would be to united the factions within Safa, he said: "We are all members of the same organisation and work for the good of soccer and SAFA."

He said he would be meeting President Jacob Zuma, Minister of Sport Makhenkesi Stofile and Sepp Blatter, the president of world soccer controlling body FIFA shortly to outline his plans and the way forward for soccer in this country.

It`s a pity that Dr. Khoza is being vilified by most people, whilst Jordan and Kirsten are viewed as saints, believe me they are not. All this people served in the same executive and whilst most of them got paid for that Dr. Khoza was not. All this guys are power hungry as they have been occupying influential positions for more than a decade. We should be waisting our energies on having ex-footballers as our soccer officials like the trend over the world instead of singing praise for people who have their fingers in the till already!!

Good riddance! The legacy of Mr Oliphant that of being leadershipless, directionless, never there and and being a yes man to Mr Khoza is over. He thought relinguishing the being president will do him good unfortunately the reverse happened. Govenrment begged, FIFA begged for elections to be postponed he never listened. As for Mr Dr Colonel Khoza, the least said the better, dictator & power hungry! Please psl you must place a vote of no confidence in him and vote him out of SAFA. May be Jomo will be a better devil!

It takes a pastor to run the church, a business owner to run a business, a soccer team owners to run soccer affairs, Administrators should just apply for jobs be employed and work, What we are seeing now is a mess a meddling. What is this Footbal Transformation, to sideline soccer owners from its affairs, Jordaan is eyeing the SAFA CEO positions, and if he does not get it; watch Kistern FTF would topple you as well.

Congratulations Kirsten: sorry Mr Khoza but your are very sturbon and greedy you got Pirates and PSL and now you want to run SAFA, no way broer you got it wrong. you don't derseve this position and i don't know why club bosses get positions in PSL and SAFA. this is corruption they should mind their business and stay away from PSL and SAFA because match official can't do their job properly because they know that they might be fired by Irvin Khoza if they don't give penalties to Pirates or if they give penalties to oppoistions. Mr Khoza must also resign from his current Position.

Khoza stop being greedy, give others a chance.U can't all have positions in our soccer administration.Stop being autocrat
lanito9/28/2009 10:42 AM
hola Kirsten im so glad that you won, wow i was so scared of Khoza being president. The guy holds so many position and right now we need someone who'll come with fresh ideas and take our football to the next level and hopefully Mr Nematandani will do that.

Congrats to Kirsten Nematandani, let us have a bit of sanity and stability in our football and according to your own assertions, put SA back to the No.1 spot in the CAF(Africa) rankings. Still remember that at one we were also ranked in the top twenty five in the world (FIFA rankings)? Maybe Kirsten will assist in the revitalisation of that lost spirit!!! Good luck Kirsten and don't forget to visit Regions like the Northern Cape - Phokwane (Hartswater, Pampierstad and Jan Kempdorp) Municipality.

That Khoza is showing himself up to be a bad apple. There is also no way we can ever have a leader of Safa that used the "K" word so freely. I'm glad of this result, it looks like Khoza is slowly but surely isolating himself.

Khoza has always been a suspect and very controversila in all his dealings. He has been a a bully for a very long time now. We need change and no controversy at all. He is soley responsible for the lack of transformation and stagnant state that SAFA finds itself in right now. Me must go please Explain to me how are countries like Senegal Bukina faso with no resources manage to develop players and beat well resourced Coutry like SA. The answer lies on Mr Khoza. He is a fat cat Finish and klaar

It's good to have a different winner than Khoza and Jordaan.SAFA does not belong to any of the two chaps. All the best Kirsten,Molefi Oliphant took a healthy SAFA and ran it down financially from Sticks Morewa, please take us back where we belong.Good luck mate.

Gents i think Dr Khoza is out of line if what is said in the media hold any substance. Anyone is free to contest any ruling if they feel its been flawed, however i don’t think Dr Khoza should have even stand for candidacy given the widespread discontent from the fraction of world soccer. What he and Jordan did is according to me very detrimental to soccer, this chaps were probably aware they going to withdraw from the race in the 12th hour thereby depriving other equally qualified members to stand for the election; it’s like what Mbeki did with ANC. I’m also disappointed with the black masses in general, we are fast becoming proponent cults of individual worshiping, it was Zuma supporters, Mbeki loyalist, Malema’s supporters, Cheune Supporters, what the f@#* is this thing we turning into?

Well done Kirsten and wish u well, Limpopo e a busha.

Grate thanks from Danny Jordaan for show that he is not power hungry,Goodluck Kirsten Nematandani "The son of soil".
nyathi9/28/2009 9:10 AM
It was the evil vs the good. The mafia guy has ruined soccer in this country. He removed Stix Morewa accusing him of being too powerful and wants to do the same. He should next be removed from PSL chairmanship. The man is evil and power-drunk
nyathi9/28/2009 9:07 AM
Sanity has prevailed. You can't have one mafia guy controlling the A-Z of soccer. Not everyone feeds from the proceeds of evil. Jordaan and the Football Transformation Forum did their homework. The next step is to remove the so-called Dr from PSL structures. The man is evil and power-hungry
Geejay9/28/2009 9:06 AM
Khoza your mafia days of thinkiing you own soccer in SA are over. You must go back to your club and be a a club boss. You can't be both. Viva Nematandani Viva. Now finally we might see the best players playing for Bafana Bafana
Phelelani Shabalala9/28/2009 8:46 AM
Khoza should show himself to be true leader and accept defeat he needs to swallow his pride and let kirsten be for the good of the game in SA.Him running to the courts will do football in this country no good. They must just plan better next time.
Papikie Centurion9/28/2009 8:42 AM
Khoza has ran football of this country for ever and has as such damaged its reputation I am happy for the new President Kirsten and wish him well, we hope he will root out corruption in the organization and lead the country to prosperity in his endevours. Papikie
