Johannesburg - Almost all of South Africa’s national teams failed to qualify for major international tournaments last year which has raised a certain level of concern not only for the fans but also for the South African Football Association (SAFA).
Planning for the future, SAFA is putting procedures into place to help identify young talent. The association has engaged their German counterparts to help identify players for their academies.
SAFA’s chief executive officer, Robin Petersen, says there is a lot of talent in the country which needs to be developed. He said that the German expert will work hand-in-hand with our development coaches.
"We are working with this German expert who has done the talent identification for his country before and he knows what to do. We need to identify players from the lowest age who can be promoted from as far as under-15 until they can play for Bafana Bafana so that we avoid having all teams failing to qualify. Our German expert will help us on this," Petersen said.
